Meditations for Relaxation
With Western Buddhist Monk Kelsang Jampa Resident Teacher at KMC - TX It is common for people now to experience a great deal of mental busyness and distracting thoughts throughout their day. These busy thoughts make the mind uncomfortable and lead to feelings of stress and even physical tension. Through breathing meditation, we can cause the turbulence of our distracting thoughts to subside so that our mind becomes still and peaceful. From this peaceful mind, feelings of contentment and a sense of well-being naturally arise from within. This special experience helps us to cope with the busyness and difficulties of daily life.
During this series of classes, we will learn three forms of breathing meditation that help to calm the mind, reduce stress, and give rise to an experience of inner peace and well-being.
Everyone welcome – no pre-registration required.
No fee, but donations are welcomed.

The class is currently following this book, Understanding the Mind.
‘When things go wrong in our life and we encounter difficult situations, we tend to regard the situation itself as the problem, but in reality whatever problems we experience come from our mind.’
This book offers a deep insight into the nature and functions of the human mind.
The first part describes different types of mind in detail, revealing the depth and profundity of Buddhist understanding of human psychology, and how this can be used to improve our lives.
The second part is a practical guide to developing and maintaining a light, positive mind – showing how to recognize and abandon states of mind that harm us and replace them with peaceful and beneficial ones.
The inspiring discovery we make is that we can attain a lasting state of joy, independent of external conditions.
Meditation Class Description
What is a typical class like?
A typical class consists of a gentle relaxation meditation, teaching, discussion, and final meditation. The meditations are guided and are suitable for beginners as well as the experienced. Each class is self-contained so feel free to join at any time!
Why meditate?
The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful. If our mind is peaceful we shall be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we shall experience true happiness; but if our mind is not peaceful we shall find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions. If we train in meditation our mind will gradually become more and more peaceful, and we shall experience a purer and purer form of happiness. Eventually we shall be able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.
“When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and our mind becomes still a deep happiness and contentment naturally arises from within.” -- Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
